About Us: A Ministry Springing from Broken Hearts
While on a ministry outreach in Russia, Beth Love and her husband, Rodney, were broken hearted to see babies wearing rags that barely even resembled diapers. It was apparent that the caretakers had used whatever spare rags and cloths were available to them. "Our hearts were always broken when we left orphanages and hospitals," explained Beth, "and we could not get them off our minds." The Loves began to pray that God would reveal a way for them to help these hurting children.
Thinking back to her early days of motherhood, Beth remembered how she had used cloth diapers on her two girls when they were babies. Suddenly she knew that God had given her the desire to provide diapers for other children just as she had provided for her own two daughters. "Disposable diapers were not an option," said Beth. "They were not the best for the children's skin, they were impractical for the caretakers, and they would provide only a very short-term solution at best."
After receiving full support from her husband, Beth immediately began contacting directors and childcare staff in the former Soviet Union. The directors affirmed the great need for diapers, and Beth went to work designing what she now calls the Hearts of Love diaper -- a cotton diaper with a layered lining for extra absorbency. But unlike the diapers she had used on her daughters, the Hearts of Love Diaper uses a Velcro fastening system to allow caretakers safe and quick changing.
From this vision, Hearts of Love has expanded into the following ministries:
Diaper Ministry
Hearts of Love started several years ago by raising funds to purchase specially designed cloth diapers for babies in orphanages in the former Soviet Union. Some babies wear rags, some have no diapers. Because there arent enough diapers for all the babies, they stay wet for long periods of time. These special diapers absorb more wet, thus providing better protection. Theyre made in Belarus for only $1 and distributed throughout the former Soviet Union. The gift of much-needed diapers often opens the doors for ministry, allowing Hearts of Love to give lasting hope to the children and their caregivers by meeting them face-to-face and sharing the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ.
Pastor4Pastor
A mentoring program that links U.S. pastors with pastors overseas for biblical training and encouragement via the internet. Currently, the program is in Belarus and Bulgaria. The goal is to expand Pastor4Pastor in other countries in the near future. Very few pastors in these countries receive any type of biblical training; however they face the same critical issues as U.S. pastors, including tolerance, Western values and pornography on the internet. As pastors are trained and encouraged, they will be in a better position to carry out the Great Commission.
Churches Loving Other Churches (CLOC)
This program works hand-in-hand with the Pastor4Pastor program. CLOC seeks to establish long-term relationships with U.S. churches and sister churches in Belarus and Bulgaria, and eventually other countries, in order to equip, encourage and help our brothers and sisters carry out the Great Commission and the Great Commandment. As churches are trained and equipped, they will be able to develop working relationships with orphanages, thus opening the door for the gospel.
Computer Labs
Children in orphanages in the Former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe are put out on the street at 16 years of age. Because they have no skills, many of the girls turn to prostitution, and the boys turn to drugs and crime. Two hundred computers have been donated to a Belarusian orphanage and 200 computers to a Bulgarian orphanage. Hearts of Love is in the process of setting up computer labs for these orphans. Hearts of Love will train Bulgarian and Belrusian church members to train the children so they will have job skills when they reach sixteen. Because of the relationships formed during training, the children can be woven into the life of the church once they leave the orphanage. Other orphanages have heard of this, and now they ALL want this. It is much needed!
